Nigeria 2-3 Congo: The Leroy jinx continues as Congo smash Eagles in Calabar

It was not expected but it happened as the

Super Eagles were beaten 3-2 at the U.J

Esuene Stadium on Saturday for the first time

by Congo led by Claude Leroy, who confirmed

his superiority over the Nigerian side as he

continued his unbeaten streak against the

Super Eagles.

It started well for the Eagles as they scored

first through Efe Ambrose but the Congolese

came forward through the speed of Thievy

Bifouma, who was a thorn in the flesh of the

Eagles’ defenders and justifiably scored a

brace and created the third.

Though Congo could be said to have been

gifted a soft penalty in the second half

through which Congo scored their third and

winning goal.

Gbolahan Salami

scored Nigeria’s

second in the 89th but even with six added

minutes, the Eagles could not claw their way

So in Group A, South Africa lead the way with

their 3-0 victory over Sudan but the seismic

shock of the first day matches would have

been the home loss by the nations Cup

defending champions.
