As the October 11, 2014 governorship by-election

in Adamawa State approaches, the All

Progressives Congress, APC, Monday, concluded

screening of all seven aspirants at the state

secretariat of the party in Yola.

The exercise which ended Monday night had all

the seven aspirants in attendance with each of

them taking their turn.

The Chairman of the Screening Committee,

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, told journalists that the

exercise was hitch free and went on as scheduled.

He said all the aspirants were very orderly and

complied with the party’s rules and regulations

and that the result will be announced soon.

An executive member of the party told PREMIUM

TIMES that there is a high possibility of all the

aspirants agreeing to produce a consensus

candidate that will fly the party’s flag in the

governorship bye-election.

An aspirant, Ahmad Barata, who was the first to

appear before the committee refused to talk to

the journalists. He appeared angry.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered from a source close to

the politician that Mr. Barata and other aspirants

had been under intense pressure by a powerful

chieftain of the party to drop their ambition for a

favoured aspirant.

Another aspirant, Dahiru Bobbo, a close associate

of Atiku Abubakar, denied any attempt to

persuade him to withdraw from the governorship

race, saying any person vying for the

governorship is free to make independent

decision.

He described the screening as interactive and

lively, saying the committee touched on the

economy, politics and other sundry issues.
